Compare the trading rules first
Two MT5 EAs can trade the same Gold symbol while taking very different risks. A grid system places entries across price levels and may close them as a basket. A breakout system enters after a defined level is crossed. Those labels describe the entry framework; they do not tell you position size, maximum exposure or how losses are closed.
Write down the maximum number of open trades, how lot sizes change and what forces the robot to exit. If those answers are missing, comparing a monthly gain figure is premature. There is no universally better category independent of its rules and execution conditions.
Basket exposure versus individual positions
Consider an illustrative three-entry basket of 0.01, 0.02 and 0.03 lots. Its gross volume is 0.06 lots, not the starting 0.01. With all entries in the same direction, further adverse movement affects the entire open basket. The cash effect depends on entry prices and the broker's contract specification.
A breakout EA that holds one 0.01-lot position has a different exposure profile, but the breakout label alone does not guarantee one-position trading. Check the actual implementation. Likewise, grid does not automatically mean martingale: equal, linear and multiplying lot schedules must be assessed separately.
Watch equity as well as balance
Closed winning baskets may produce a smooth balance curve while open positions carry losses. Compare the equity curve and maximum floating exposure alongside closed-trade results. For a breakout system, inspect sequences of stopped trades and how long recovery took without changing its settings.
Ask whether a stated drawdown is balance or equity drawdown and whether it comes from a live account or a test. Reports covering different dates, starting deposits or lot sizes cannot establish which strategy is safer simply by ranking the percentages.
Make the comparison reproducible
- Use the same broker symbol, historical period and starting balance; record differences that cannot be aligned.
- Document each product's sizing method, maximum positions and protective exits rather than forcing identical lots on unlike systems.
- Save the exact EA version and inputs, and compare commission, spread assumptions and execution settings.
- Separate the period used to choose settings from the period used to evaluate them. Keep losing periods in the report.
- Include trade count, equity drawdown, worst basket or trade, holding time and time in market; no single score describes all of these.
Where to start in the Quantora catalogue
Quantora Smart Grid MT5 is a buy-only Gold grid system with volatility-adaptive spacing. Quantora Breakout uses a structural breakout approach for XAUUSD with one position at a time. Their product pages describe different sizing and operating requirements; check those requirements before running either demo.
This comparison is a framework for reading the evidence, not a recommendation to allocate funds to either strategy. Combining two robots on Gold can still concentrate exposure to the same instrument, even if their entry rules differ.
